This seminal piece of film was created by the great George A. Romero. Made in 1968, the film has created many of our impressions as to what a member of the undead is and how they function.
The reason for reanimation of the dead is never made clear in the film for both dramatic and scientific reasons. The film isn’t a cautionary tale, but it has Romero’s signature style of social criticism and cultural brainwashing, stereotypes and racism. Our hero in the film is a young, strong black man who prepares and focuses for his survival, as well as that of the inhabitants of the last-stand farmhouse.
