Scores of people in a remote Peruvian village have needed treatment after an object from space – said to be a meteorite – plummeted to Earth in a remote area, officials say. Residents who visited the impact crater complained of headaches and nausea.

Locals described the meteorite as a bright, fiery ball with a smoke trail. The sound and smell rattled residents to the point that they feared for their lives. The meteorite’s impact sent debris flying up to 820 feet (250 meters) away, with some material landing on the roof of the nearest home 390 feet (120 meters) from the crater.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but isn’t this another source of Zombism? I mean, we have disease, government experiments, strange radiation and yes, sources from space. Its undocumented whether space rocks can carry organic matter, or even if organic matter could survive the cold vacuum and intense heating of reentry. This does not rule out the preservation of matter by the freezing of space, or its thawing and reanimation from being encased in a meteor, and then opened upon impact.

Naturally, there is very little we know about organic space matter, but the chance remains that microbes can survive rigorous space travel to crash land in Antarctica. We’re left with the mystery of what kind of microbes can evolve and live in space, or on other planets? What threat do they pose if introduced to Earth?

The source of disease and illness in Peru turned out to be terrestrial in nature. The space object crashed into an underground water supply tainted with arsenic. The resulting gases caused the illness.

It’s a very plausible and believable story.
